Why I Started Nexarina: Women's Snowboard Gear That Actually Fits
At 5'0", I spent years trying to make snowboard gear work for my body. Nexarina started with one question: why should women have to adapt to their outerwear instead of their outerwear being designed for them?
I built the outerwear I couldn't find.
Pants were too long. Sleeves were too long. Sizing down fixed one problem and created another. I wanted technical snowboard outerwear designed around women's proportions from the beginning.
Fit wasn't a small inconvenience.
Snowboarding means crouching, twisting, reaching and moving all day. Gear that is too long, too loose or proportioned incorrectly gets in the way.
I realized the problem wasn't simply finding my size. It was finding technical women's snowboard gear built around the right proportions in the first place.
Then I started talking to other women.
Petite women weren't the only ones struggling. Tall women needed more length. Curvier riders struggled with proportions. Some women were wearing men's gear because it worked better technically.
After hundreds of conversations, the pattern was clear: women were constantly adapting themselves to outerwear that wasn't really built around them.
So I started building.
Nexarina grew through prototypes, fit changes, product testing and constant feedback.
Every version taught us something about proportion, movement, warmth, ventilation or the details that make technical outerwear work on snow.
More than 50 prototypes later, the goal hasn't changed: build women's snowboard outerwear around women from the beginning.
Women shouldn't have to choose between serious technical performance and outerwear designed around their bodies.
One standard length doesn't fit every woman.
Nexarina outerwear is developed around women's proportions, with Short, Regular and Tall options designed to give more women a better fit from the start.
But fit is only one part of the system. Technical protection, movement, ventilation and purposeful features still have to perform when you're actually on the mountain.
Women's outerwear shouldn't mean watered-down performance.
Fit started Nexarina, but the product still had to perform. That's why our outerwear combines women-focused fit development with technical waterproofing, insulation, ventilation and movement.
The goal isn't to add features just to make the spec list longer. Every detail should solve a problem on snow.
Good outerwear should disappear when you're riding.
You shouldn't be thinking about sleeves that are too long, pants bunching around your boots or constantly adjusting your gear.
You should be thinking about the run in front of you.
That's what I wanted when I started Nexarina, and that's still what we're building for.
